About Idiot Cooking Tools

Idiot Cooking Tools was built around one simple idea: cooking involves a surprising amount of small, repetitive maths — scaling a recipe, converting an oven temperature, working out how much rice to cook for a dinner party — and that maths deserves fast, free, single-purpose tools rather than being buried inside long recipe articles or generic all-in-one calculator sites.

Every one of our 26 tools focuses on exactly one cooking or kitchen task. We deliberately avoid combining unrelated calculators into one confusing page, and every tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript — nothing you type is sent to a server, and no account or sign-up is ever required.

Our approach

Each tool is built to be immediately usable without instructions, backed by a plain-language explanation and FAQ section below it for anyone who wants to understand the reasoning behind the numbers. We update and expand this toolbox over time as new kitchen calculation needs come up.
